Women-Owned businesses among the leaders in job creation & revenue growth
As of 2012, it is estimated that there are more than 8.3 million women-owned businesses in the United States, generating nearly $1.3 trillion in revenue and employing nearly 7.7 million people, according to the 2nd annual State of Women-Owned Businesses Report commissioned by American Express OPEN. The growth in the number (up 54%), employment (up 9%) and revenues (up 58%) of women-owned firms over the past 15 years exceeds the growth rates of all but the largest, publicly-traded firms.
Among the most notable findings: Between 1997 and 2012, when the number of businesses in the U.S. increased by 37%, the number of women-owned firms increased by 54% – a rate 1.5 times the national average. The number of women-owned companies has risen by 200,000 within the past year, equivalent to just under 400 new women-owned firms per day !!
