Swappable Electric Batteries Can Recharge Smartscooter in 6 Seconds
The Smartscooter is far from the first electric scooter on the market, but Taiwanese startup Gogoro is hoping to get the edge in the urban mobility scene through its emphasis on high-end design. The agile scooter has a top speed of 60 mph, and boasts high-intensity LED lights (the same used by Porsche) for nighttime travel and sleek, single sheet aluminum body construction. A single battery charge can take riders anywhere from 30 to 60 miles depending on speed and terrain, but if the scooter runs out of juice, ATM-style swap stations offer quick battery changes. The rider parks at a station, removes their dead battery and swaps it for a fresh one – the process takes six seconds. Alternatively, the battery recharges in 60 to 90 minutes.
