Pantone Honors Prince With His Own Shade Of Purple
USA – Pantone has released a brand new color to recognize pop icon Prince’s contributions to music, art, fashion and culture. The color, dubbed Love Symbol #2, is a deep purple hue that the company said was designed to be “emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style.”
The shade’s name is a nod to the “love symbol” formed of a combination of the universal symbols for male and female that Prince, who died last year, used for some time instead of a name. The pop star was long associated with the color purple, and he starred in and composed the soundtrack for the 1984 film Purple Rain.
The Pantone Color Institute, a consulting branch of Pantone that creates custom colors and advises companies on brand identity issues, created the Love Symbol #2 shade in consultation with Prince’s estate.
