Renowned for its exotic and romantic melodies, Giacomo Puccini's “Madama Butterfly” is one of the best loved operas of all time. It is the story of an American naval officer who enters into a casual marriage with the young geisha, Cio-cio-san, who is anything by casual about the union. He departs and three years pass before he returns, but this time with his American wife. Heartbroken, Cio-cio-san, having borne his child, must take the only course of action she deems honorable.
